About our Beginners Course
Perhaps you've never shot a bow before or maybe you've had a go at archery at an activity day or while on holiday. Either way we welcome anybody who wants to try out archery with a view to taking it up. Our club will teach you the right techniques and ensure that you know how to shoot safely. We'll also tell you all about target archery including:
• safety, etiquette and the rules of shooting
• shooting rounds and scoring
• basic shooting techniques
We provide all the equipment you'll need for the course, so please don't buy any until you've had our advice.
We'll also give you a beginner’s manual with information covering each lesson to remind you of what you learnt.
A full years membership is included in the course fees.
Duration of the course
The course consists of 6 lessons each of 1 hour. If it's necessary to cancel a lesson due to bad weather, or if you know in advance that you'll miss a particular week (e.g. if you are on holiday), then it can be made up later. If you're unable to attend a particular lesson please let us know beforehand. To comply with our governing body, the Grand National Archery Society we are unable to accept beginners onto the Course unless they are members of the Club and are prepared to complete the beginner’s course.
Clothing
You should wear comfortable but close-fitting clothing. If it's chilly it's better to wear several thin layers rather than one bulky one. In particular it's important that you don't wear jumpers or jackets with baggy sleeves as the bow string tends to catch on them and spoil your shot!
Cost
The total cost for the six week course is £55.00
£20.00 is payable at the first lesson, with the balance of £35 due at the start of the second lesson or paid weekly at £7.00 for the remaining five weeks.
On completion GNAS Insurance will be a requirement this will be explained fully on the course.
